@Arduin - I'm a miser. I get it myself or go without.
@Trader of Secrets - check back in the HoM, if you haven't done the new conversation between Thackeray and Gwen, when the picnic becomes a no-go.

If Evennia hasn't left your blade camp yet, rezone a few times and watch the dialogues, I guess?

And you don't have to give Thackeray hard apple cider to progress the storyline. The final gwen/thackeray dialogue fired for me when I'd given him a birthday cake, drake kabob, votive candles, and dwarven ale. I got a sack of random junk for the latter, obviously, but apparently getting each of the four items (candle, food, drink, sweets) is enough to progress the storyline, even if you don't get the "perfect" item.

Aint working for me.

I gave him the candles, drake kebob, birthday cupcake, and both dwarven ale and hunters ale (among other things).

EDIT: Oh going out talking to him empty-handed and then going into HoM again triggered it - thanks

Second lot of dialogue. They are up to their fourth set at the moment as far as updates are concerned.

You know I came back to GW after a very long absense because of the War in Kryta stuff. And now because of the prerequisite to get all these hard to obtain items for Thackery to progress the storyline I think it is just stupid. I'd love to continue with it but cannot which I think is a real goddamn shame. It's almost like I'm being punished for not being an item hoarder or playing GW religiously. Why implement a important part of the storyline if only a small amount of the populace can finish it to completion?

You don't need all the perfect items to continue the storyline. You can do it this way:

Food Item (any 1 of these)
1 Drake Kabob (farmable and make-able by anyone with nightfall) btw this one is the perfect food.
Bowl of Scalefin soup (nightfall)
Chunk of Drake meat (may as well make a kabob)

Candles
6 Votive Candles (make-able with 3 honeycombs and prophecies)
honeycombs can be gotten by farming grawl necklaces in sacnoth valley.

Drink Item (any 1 of these)
Bottle of Vabbian Wine (nightfall buyable)
Dwarven Ale (prophecies buyable - droknar's forge for example)
Hunter's Ale (various turn ins can get you one)

Sweet Item
Red Bean Cake (buyable factions)

So you would need all the campaigns, unless you got someone to go run and buy them for you. These are at least not limited by some rare event drop, which I do agree is pretty damn stupid way to run a quest/storyline.

Drake Kabob is farmable in Istan, Ale is buyable in the Shiverpeaks from merchants, honeycombs are farmable in EotN, cupcakes will always be buyable form other players because of their useful nature.

I have yet to find a player in my alliance that hasn't been able to gather all ingredients.

Hum, Imaginos said it 10x better

The hardest item seems to be Honeycombs. These can be gotten form Traveler Gifts, so should be easy to buy when spamming WTB Honeycombs for a bit in Kamadan.

As Imaginos said, honeycombs are farmable in Sacnoth Valley - albeit somewhat slowly.

Personally, I have a neverending supply, thanks to a perma-Pre farming Nick gifts and a handy-dandy mule account to ferry them into Post
